I started Fire Study with dread in my heart, because I knew this would be the last book about Yelena. However, my dread was overpowered by my eagerness to know what will happen to her and to finally see some of the most evil villains ever, Ferde and his clan, the Daviians, get their just desserts. They can't exactly get away with raping and mutilating numerous teenage girls and I was anxious to read about the pain and punishment the butt kicking Yelena would feed them.
Fire Study's plot was like it's predecessors, Poison Study and Magic Study, fast moving with lots of action, details, romance, and anything else someone could want in a book. I particularly loved the scenes with Lief, because it was sweet to see the hard Yelena connect with her big brother, and Moon Man, because it's impossible not to love a character named Moon Man. (He paints himself entirely blue sometimes. How can one not love him?) Valek continued to be his handsome, annoying, know-it-all self but he surprisingly didn't appear for a significant amount of pages. There was also a devastating lack of Perl, Yelena's mother, who had more of a background part in Fire than she had in Magic.
Fire Study continues where Magic Study left off (SPOILERS AHEAD SPOILERS AHEAD SPOILERS AHEAD [for Magic Study]), with Yelena and Lief going after Ferde and his new cohort, Cahil, who helped him escape from prison. Yelena and her crew travel through Sitia and Ixia meeting up with old friends from both Poison and Fire facing new challenges while trying to figure out how she'll be able to defeat her new and even stronger and more terrifying new nemesis, the mysterious Fire Warper.
5 stars. As I made very clear in my posts about Poison Study and Magic Study, this series is a must read.
