The book can be split into two parts: pre-proposal, post-proposal. In the first part, Bronwen (awesome name) and Jared fall in love in what is one of the sweetest love stories ever. There is a considerable age difference-she's a senior in high school, and he's a senior in college-but it's obvious that they are perfect for each other. Then he proposes and they plan for a summer wedding. During the engagement, Bronwen starts questioning if marriage is really what she wants, and if she's up to the same place in life as Jared.
The title has more meaning than you think. Before I read it, I thought it would be about a girl losing her identity in a loving but clingy relationship with her high school boyfriend. I didn't expect Jared to be the amazing guy he was-loving, but not clingy-and the whole losing identity thing doesn't really have to do with getting married. Bronwen has this idea that she was switched at birth (even though she knows she wasn't) that helps her cope with the fact that she's nothing like the rest of her family. The story was less of a love story, and more of a tale of self-discovery.
One of the sweetest things ever, (besides Jared's "Dream of me" line), was Bronwen's relationship (or non-relationship) with her step-dad. Told through flashbacks, we read about how much she loved him, and how she thought he would put her family back together after her dad's death. I won't say anymore, but when everything was resolved I had to hold the tears back so as not to make my mascara run.
5 stars. I know I think a lot of books are amazing, but this one was the most emotionally amazing book I have ever read.
